From Sketch to Portrait: The New Welham & Co Portrait Experience

Creating a custom portrait is a personal experience, and we believe you should be part of the process from beginning to end.

With our new Studio experience, you can choose your artist, share the details that matter to you, and see how your portrait comes together, from the first sketch to the finished artwork.

Here's a closer look at what you can expect along the way.

Step 1: Choose Your Artist and Share Your Story

Your portrait experience begins with a few personal choices.

After selecting your portrait type, painting style, size, and finish, you can choose the artist who will paint your artwork.

With our new Select Your Artist feature, you can explore available artists and choose someone whose artistic style speaks to you. If you're unsure who to choose, simply select Next Available, and we'll match you with an artist who works in your preferred style.

Next, upload your photographs and share any details you'd like your artist to know.

Perhaps there's a particular expression you want to capture, a family member you'd like included from a separate photograph, or a small detail that holds special meaning.

You can leave a personal note for your artist, helping them understand what matters most as they begin working on your portrait.

Step 2: See Your First Sketch in 1–3 Days

Before your portrait is fully painted, you'll receive a sketch showing how your artwork will be arranged.

Your first sketch arrives within 1–3 days so you can review the composition and make sure everything is just right.

This is the time to check that everyone is included, that they're positioned where you'd like them, and that the overall arrangement matches what you had in mind.

Want to move someone closer together or adjust how a particular detail appears? You can request changes before approving the sketch.

Once you're happy with the composition, your artist can move forward with painting the final artwork.

Step 3: Watch Your Portrait Come Together

With your sketch approved, your artist begins working on the final portrait.

Every Welham & Co Studio portrait is hand-painted digitally by a real artist, starting from a blank canvas. Your artist carefully works through the details of your chosen style, bringing your photographs together into a finished piece.

You'll have the opportunity to review the final artwork and request unlimited revisions for small details, whether it's an expression, a color, or something else you'd like refined.

You'll also receive a time-lapse of your portrait being painted once your final artwork is approved, giving you a closer look at how your artwork came together.

From the first stages of painting to the finished details, it's a chance to see the artistry behind a portrait made especially for you.

Step 4: See Your Artwork Before You Pay

We believe you should feel confident about your portrait before it becomes part of your home.

That's why our $0 Upfront promise remains part of the Welham & Co experience.

You can place your order without paying upfront, review your sketch, and see your finished artwork before payment.

Once the final artwork is approved, your portrait moves into production, where it's prepared in your selected size and finish.

Your portrait is then printed, framed if selected, and delivered in approximately 8–11 business days after final approval.

Whether it's a family portrait that brings generations together, a tribute to a beloved pet, or a meaningful gift for someone special, every piece carries a story worth remembering.

And now, you can be part of that story from the very beginning.

Made by an artist. Treasured forever.
